“Another belief of mine: that everyone else my age is an adult, whereas I am merely in disguise.”
— Margaret Atwood, Cat’s Eye
Anyone else think this quote is just perfect? I swear I've never felt like a fully fledged adult yet. Probably doesn't help that I still haven't left home properly, and the Bank of Mum and Dad™ still help out quite a bit...
I've always liked to think of studenthood as practice for the real world and actual adulthood. You act like an adult, but only have some of the real responsibilities of an adult. You slowly take on more and more of these responsibilities for yourself over the course of one's studenthood. First: feeding yourself, washing your own clothes, making sure you get to lectures on time. Second: paying bills, realising that going out the night before a 9.15 am lecture is nigh-on impossible etc. The last step is actually leaving home properly and becoming fully independent of the parentals (well, as much as that is possible lol). You know, having a job and salary, your own flat, a dog, etc. I think I'm probably a few years off this step, what with the wanting to do medicine but eventually I get there. One day.
So yeah, there's my thought of the day.
Randomosity: I think I'm gonna get this. Just something I can do when my brain is fried during the next few months. Might actually help me think straight as I doodle and scribble stuff...
Also found out that Brian Jacques, the author of the Redwall series passed away over the weekend. That's sad. I used to love his books as a kid. Might have to reread them at some point...
Well that's a little annoying... Can't get the Amazon thingy to work.
Or is it just me that can't see it?
Whatever.
